Read Issue 20 of Digital Art Live Magazine : Digital Clothing

Welcome to Issue 20

This issue we explore the design and creation of clothing content for 3D characters with three different artists. We’re also featuring a review on Marvelous Designer 6.5, software that is highly regarded as part of the workflow for creating clothing content.
Interested in creating clothing content? You may pick up on some tips from reading our interviews and exploring what possibilities you could bring to the table. The best quality of all as an artist is pure persistence. Having a constant determination to experiment, fail as quickly as possible, learn from your mistakes and other artists, try again and sometimes succeeding will lead to a portfolio that you can be proud of.
With our review on Marvelous Designer, you’ll discover that you can create beautiful 3D virtual clothing with this design software. There are tools that enhance quality while saving you time. It can be used to create basic shirts to intricately pleated dresses and rugged uniforms. Replications can take place of fabric textures and consider physical properties of the clothing. Detailing down to the last button, fold, and accessory can be generated. Draping garments onto 3D forms in real time is one of my favourite aspects of the software.

“… I would have been lost without the community. And even now I have questions to ask. When I have technical difficulties, or there is a new plugin, a new tool, new software, I can just go there and say: “Listen, can I ask you…?””
MELISSA MORAITIS
Melissa (‘BlackTalonArts’) exemplifies the 3D artists who put digital clothes to good use, in superb renders and compositions.
DAZ STUDIO | PS
“Who doesn’t love dragons? Love them! While fierce and deadly, there is something very magical/mystical about dragons.  I tend to view them as protectors, not as servants or beasts to be slain.”
JEPE
Jepe has been developing 3D store content since the first days of Poser, and has a range of best-selling ‘digital cloth’.
DAZ STUDIO | PS
“… My Body Jewels [content store pack] is a ‘second skin’ geometry layer based on transparency and high resolution displacement maps, which can take every possible shader [in either DAZ or Poser].”
