VUE has an advanced atmospheric engine allowing you to create impressive skies with multiple cloud layers. You can pick a pre-defined atmosphere of course, but if you want to craft a specific cloudscape that compliments your terrain, it’s vital to comprehend the atmosphere editor as well as learning how to light the scene.

Karen Reedstrom is a long standing VUE artist AND a trained meteorologist who has worked for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. National Weather Service. With her specialised background she will provide you additional depth in this VUE course on creating Stunning Skies. She’ll include the teaching of cloud types and atmospheric conditions so you can achieve more realistic and attractive scenes in Vue.

Content : The atmosphere editor – tab by tab

Sun Tab
– How to move the sun around and use the Real World settings with the Map of the World
– Tips on the sun’s appearance and it’s corona.
Light Tab
There are five Atmosphere models and different options are available for each. Let’s explore them!
– Karen will also show you some tips to get greyed out features active again.
– What are the lighting models and what do they do?
– What do I do with those colored boxes? And what is Gain and bias and Range?
– Can I create some cool SciFi effects without burning out my processor? YES!
Clouds Tab
Karen is a trained meteorologist who knows clouds! She will tell you about the different types of clouds, where they are located in the atmosphere and how they are layered.
– Using the material editor to color and sculpt clouds
– The different cloud materials in Vue and how to use them
– The different ways to add and mix clouds in Vue
Sky, Fog & Haze Tab
What do all these sliders and color boxes do?
– What is Sky ground density and how is it different from Sky mean altitude?
– How are fog and haze different and why are they important for the creation of God Rays?
– What is this anisotropy term and how do I use the sliders correctly?
– Aerial perspective, is that important?
– Do I need to boost the quality to the max for a good render and why is there another quality boost slider in the Light Tab? Do I need both?

About Karen Reedstrom (Minto)

Karen has been using Vue since Vue 4 and has posted many renders on Cornucopia 3D, winning awards and actively taking part in contests. She has been a long-time vendor on the former Cornucopia 3D store creating objects, plants, skies, and more. Professionally she has used Vue for Ford Motors online training courses and combining DAZ and Poser characters with Vue to create artwork, movie one sheets and book covers.

Karen is also a trained meteorologist who has worked for the U.S. Navy, The National Weather Service, and several private meteorological business including a pioneering satellite research scientist.
